Deezer Flags 85% of AI-Music Streams as Fraudulent, Opens Detection Tech to Industry

Deezer has announced that as much as 85% of AI-generated music streams on its platform are fraudulent. This revelation comes as the music streaming company intensifies its stance against stream manipulation, particularly in the context of the rising use of artificial intelligence in music production.

To combat this issue, Deezer is extending access to its fraud detection tools beyond its platform. These tools are designed to identify suspicious activities such as:

  • Bot-generated streaming
  • AI-generated content presented as human-made
  • Unusual listening behaviors that skew data

This proactive approach reflects the industry’s growing concerns about maintaining chart integrity and fair revenue distribution as AI becomes more deeply embedded in content creation.

According to Deezer CEO Jeronimo Folgueira, synthetic content is threatening to overwhelm digital platforms, distorting real listener data and compromising the streaming ecosystem. He has called for cross-industry collaboration to tackle the rise of artificial streaming manipulation.

While streaming fraud has been a persistent problem even with human-created content, AI intensifies the challenge by enabling rapid, large-scale content production and anonymized artist identities. Deezer’s initiative may serve as a model for other platforms seeking to balance technological advancement with the need for authenticity and fairness.
